*Tasks young citizens to be actively engaged in democratic process
As Nigerians celebrate the 2026 Democracy Day, the Presidential Candidate of the Action Democratic Party (ADP) 2027 General Elections, Ambassador Aliyu Bin Abbas has lamented that democracy that does not deliver security, prosperity, justice, quality education, affordable healthcare, reliable electricity, and economic is not worth celebrating.
"As the Presidential Candidate of the Action Democratic Party (ADP) for the 2027 General Elections, I believe that democracy must go beyond periodic elections. Democracy must deliver security, prosperity, justice, quality education, affordable healthcare, reliable electricity, and economic opportunities for every Nigerian regardless of ethnicity, religion, gender, or social status.
"Our nation possesses immense human and natural resources. What we require is visionary leadership, accountable governance, and a renewed commitment to national unity and development," he said.
In a message titled, "Democracy Day Message To Nigerians" , he said, "Today, we commemorate Democracy Day, a historic occasion that reminds us of the sacrifices made by countless patriots who struggled to secure the freedoms and democratic rights we enjoy today.
"June 12 is more than a date; it is a symbol of courage, resilience, justice, and the collective determination of the Nigerian people to build a nation governed by the will of its citizens."
Speaking further, he said, "As we reflect on our democratic journey, we must acknowledge both our achievements and our challenges. While democracy has endured, millions of Nigerians continue to grapple with insecurity, unemployment, poverty, inadequate infrastructure, rising living costs, and limited opportunities, particularly for our youth and women."
Ambassador Abbas therefore, called upon all Nigerians, especially our young people, to remain actively engaged in the democratic process.
"The future of our nation depends on our collective participation, vigilance, and determination to build a better Nigeria.
"Together, we can create a nation where every citizen has the opportunity to thrive, where merit is rewarded, where public service is truly dedicated to the people, and where government works for all.
"On this Democracy Day, let us renew our faith in Nigeria and our commitment to a stronger, safer, more prosperous, and more united nation.
"May God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria," he said.
