Ganye Chiefdom and Matters Arising
As the Silver Jubilee celebrations of the Ganye Chiefdom continue with pride and unity, it is disheartening to observe that a group of individuals appears bent on undermining the progress our people have achieved over the past decades.
As a forum dedicated to the precious unity and progress of this great chiefdom across ethnic and religious lines, we are therefore, compelled to state as follows;
1. It is particularly troubling that certain individuals—most notably a specific family with a long history of opposing peace, development, and ethnic harmony in our chiefdom—have now resorted to acts of physical assault, harassment, and intimidation. Their aim seems to be the preservation of their waning influence over the sociopolitical landscape of our people, using fear and division across ethnic and religious lines.
2. These tendencies recently culminated in the unlawful arrest and detention of a respected Chamba son, Alhaji Umaru Bello Jada, popularly known as Calculate. His only “offense” was exercising his constitutionally guaranteed rights to free speech, association, and self-defense.
3. Even more appalling is the current wave of deeply insulting and divisive rhetoric targeting the revered Gangwari Ganye—our paramount traditional ruler—and, by extension, the entire Chamba race. These affronts are circulating widely in the media and are both heartbreaking and provocative.
4. It is not surprising that the source of this attack is none other than Bala Kalu, son of Sadiq Muhammed (Walin Ganye), a figure known for his long-standing hostility toward not only the Chamba but also the Fulani and any others outside his personal interests.
5. We make it clear and without apology: Gangwari Ganye remains the most eminent, patient, and respected traditional ruler in Adamawa State today. For twenty-five years, he has guided our chiefdom with wisdom and grace, fostering peace and progress among all ethnic and religious groups. Any attempt to ridicule this highly esteemed monarch or sow seeds of discord among the united people of the Ganye Chiefdom will be resisted firmly and decisively.
6. For the sake of peace and clarity, let it be known that these detractors represent no community other than themselves and their immediate circle. Their actions do not reflect the will, sentiment, or aspirations of any ethnic or religious group within our Chiefdom.
7. This is evident in their constant antagonism with members of their own “ethnic group” who have made significant contributions to the chiefdom, such as Atiku Abubakar, late Hamma Kojoli, Hassan Tukur, Umar Ardo, etc. Indeed, the said individuals have made a name in hatred and sabotage.
8. Finally, it is no secret that the Adamawa State Government has shown a pattern of antagonism toward the Ganye Chiefdom and its leadership—a matter that continues to raise questions best answered by those in Dougire.
9. Finally, we urge all well-meaning citizens to remain united, vigilant, and committed to defending the dignity and unity of our people in this difficult moment. We also implore our leaders to call these unscrupulous elements to order before it is too late.
Yours in Unity,
Dr. Isa Ladlerumso
