NWPA Condemns Alleged Witch-Hunt of AGF Madein
Civil society group NWPA has decried alleged efforts to force the Accountant General of the Federation, Mrs. Oluwatoyin Sakirat Madein, out of office before her scheduled retirement in March 2025. They described the actions as "desperate and baseless."
At a press conference in Abuja, NWPA spokesperson Mrs. Christine Ezekwe commended Madein’s professionalism and President Tinubu’s leadership in supporting her tenure. "The President has made a wise decision by ensuring continuity and stability in the office," Ezekwe said.
The group dismissed claims that Madein victimized a Director by transferring him, asserting that routine postings are standard administrative practices. "Posting civil servants to strategic roles enhances their development and contribution to governance," Ezekwe explained.
In the words of Mrs Ezekwe , “when has routine posting become a crime that posting A Director to a strategic institute where public servants are trained, molded into professional bureaucrats became a witch hunt? We are very sure that Mr Shamselden Babatunde Ogunjimi was giving an assigned responsibility to impact on the system, groom civil servants for effective service delivery and contribute his quota to the development of the country ”
“Claiming that the accountant General did not proceed on terminal leave is a desperation whose purpose time and season would uncover. we are all here a few months ago when our beloved sister and the immediate past Head of Civil Service of the Federation, Dr. Yemi-Esan stayed in the office peacefully until her retirement date. Why did this group of desperadoes not sponsor media reports then?”
“With three months to the retirement of Mrs Oluwatoyin Sakirat Madein as Accountant General of the Federation those longing to occupy her position as their life time dreams should show a strong sense of maturity by waiting patiently for her to exit before they can takeover the position, if appointed ”
The group appealed to the Accountant General to remember she is an ambassador of the Nigerian woman and go about her duty passionately to actualise the dreams of President Bola Tinubu’s promise to give renewed hope to Nigerians in line with his renewed agenda.
NWPA called for calm and urged Madein to remain committed to her duties. They noted that premature attacks on her legacy undermine national progress and public trust in governance.
The group concluded with a warning against further media campaigns targeting the AGF and other senior officials, including the Head of Civil Service. "Such actions do not serve the interest of Nigeria," Ezekwe stressed.
