Benue: Vigilante In Oglewu Foil Kidnap Attempt, Rescue 6 Victims


The swift response on vigilante personnel on Monday night, foiled a kidnap attempt in Idabi-Awulema,  Oglewu in Ohinini Local Government Area of Benue State, rescuing six victims in the process.

It was reliably gathered  that  seven people were kidnapped on the Idabi-Awulema road on Monday night, December 18, 2023. 


Sources said that one of the victims  escaped and reported in the village. 

In a swift response, vigilantes from Alaglanu, Idabi, Awulema, Anmoda and Atakpa villages in Oglewu,  all entered the bush for search and rescue mission. 

"The kidnappers under pressure released the six victims but escaped arrest," the source informed.

When contacted, Ad'Ohimini, HRH, Dr. John Ochayi, Och'Oglewu Obande, commended the vigilantes in their sustained effort to keep Oglewu safe. 

"We commend the good work they are doing," he said.

He recalled that "they  had in a similar operation in the past,  cut across the district, rescued 11 kidnapped victims, arrested some kidnappers and handed them to the police," he said.


He  therefore, recommended same approach to other communities in Idomaland to checkmate the lingering security challenges bedeviling their  land.


"Bravo to Oglewu Vigilantes," he stressed.
